Overcoming Testing Anxiety

“When you hear a voice within you say ‘you cannot paint,’ then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced.” – Vincent van Gogh

Standardized tests are challenging, plain and simple; students sit in a room for roughly four hours with minimal breaks, encounter a number of never-ending distractions (courtesy of the surrounding students), and often feel like their future depends on this set of scores. How can students overcome these factors to achieve success? How can they alleviate the anxiety that comes with these experiences? Join Dr. Deborah Ledley to understand the anxieties that stem from standardized testing, as well as coping methods and lifestyle changes that can prevent them. This workshop will help to prepare even the most anxious of students for standardized testing success!

The Overcoming Testing Anxiety Workshop Includes:

  • Identifying the three factors that maintain test anxiety
  • Learning to challenge negative, self-defeating thoughts and replacing them with more realistic, helpful thoughts
  • Noticing the physical symptoms of anxiety that might interfere with test taking, and learning strategies to evoke a sense of calm before and during tests
  • Understanding habits and behaviors that increase and decrease anxiety, and, ultimately, affect test performance
